We all feel the difference between a good morning and a bad one.
Some days, you spring out of bed like Cinderella on a Sunday—the birds are singing, the sun is shining and nothing can get in your way! But other days, the daily slog of life can really get to you.
How do you ensure that you get more of the good days than the bad? Reclaim your mornings.
It’s a common saying that, “one positive thought in the morning can change your whole day.” And the experts agree. Don’t you feel better when you start your day with positive intention rather than chaos?
The best thing about a positive morning routine is that it sets you up for a beautiful day full of energy, gratitude and creativity. Who doesn’t want that? Here’s how to do it.
1. Take it easy.
Take a little digital sabbatical when you first wake up. Don’t concern yourself with likes, fans and email. Without the distraction of what everyone else wants from you, you can begin your day on your own terms.
2. Meditate on your blessings.
Before you place your feet on the floor, engage your mind and heart by thinking of three things you are grateful for. Trust me, those thoughts will inspire the rest of your day.
3. Drink a big glass of water.
Drinking water on an empty stomach in the morning is one of the best things you can do to start your day cleansed and refreshed. Water purifies the body, helping it to better absorb nutrients from your breakfast!
4. Breathe in a little fresh air.
Grab a sweater and step out onto your landing or porch. Feel the sunshine warm your face, breathe in the crisp morning air and claim your fresh start. It’s a new day!
5. Ask yourself, “How am I?”
Check in with yourself for a moment: How are you feeling? Slow down enough to identify with whatever is going on in your heart, mind and body. Are you sore? Anxious? Energized? Exhilarated? Know that every emotion is okay.
6. Eat a great breakfast.
Make your breakfast count. Put together a simple, nourishing meal that will keep you going strong till lunch. Here are some make-ahead ideas to inspire you. Not feeling oats? Try one of these instead.
7. Give yourself some TLC.
Whether it’s stretching, running or engaging in your yoga practice, getting moving is one of the best things you can do to start your day off right.
8. Set strong intentions for your workday.
Affirm the good things you want to happen in your day. Remind yourself that you are enough. That you are capable. That you are talented. That you are blessed. Then decide what you want to achieve: What three main things would you be proud to have accomplished during the day?
9. Take your time.
It’s too easy for mornings to become frustrated and rushed. Give yourself as much time as you need to take your morning one step at a time, with no overwhelm. Get up earlier and claim the space you’ve created for yourself!
10. Claim your smile.
Be love. Share love. Grow love.
